Whitetail hunters put a lot of time and money into their gear. Especially their camo system. So, if you’re going to spend a small fortune on your camo, hopefully you spend it on the best whitetail camo system you can get. There can be many strong arguments made as to who makes the best whitetail camo system, but I’m not writing this to argue. Instead, I am going to talk about my personal pick for what the best camo system is, and why it’s my favorite.
My Go-To Whitetail Camo System
For years, I was the classic “It’s all about how you layer” guy when it came to hunting those cold days. That philosophy does have some accuracy, but I found myself feeling like a Michelin man in the tree stand. That isn’t exactly ideal when you have to do things like draw a bow, or even take a leak.
In all honesty, I was just too much of a tightwad to invest in a good camo system. There were times when I felt like I was wearing everything in my closet, but still got cold. However, it only took one time of getting absolutely chilled to the bone before I decided enough was enough, and it was time to invest in a new whitetail system. I didn’t want just any camo though, I wanted the best whitetail camo system there was.
Enter the Sitka Stratus System.
About: Sitka Stratus System
The first thing that sold me on the Stratus was the 100% windproof feature. This is enabled by a Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper technology. I don’t know about you all, but nothing can make me want to go home more than one of those cold October-November winds that cut through just about any clothing. The system is also extremely quiet, unlike many of my whitetail camo systems in the past.
Along with the windproof ability, the Stratus system is offered in the EV-II pattern which is specifically designed for whitetail hunters that are in a tree.
Sitka also added in a water-repellent finish on the Stratus, which comes in rather handy. There’s cold, and then there’s wet AND cold. So, this system offers the water resistance along with being rated for the mid to upper 30 degree range.
The reason the Stratus System has my pick for the best whitetail camo system is because of its versatility. I wear my Stratus from mid-October, all the way until the end of season in mid-January. I am able to do this because the jacket is fitted to be worn on its own, or with layering underneath. Earlier in the season, I may only wear a t-shirt under my jacket, and shorts under my bibs. Later in the season, I may wear a long sleeve and a hoodie under my jacket, and long underwear and sweats under my bibs. My point is, if you are looking for the best whitetail camo system to “do it all”, I’d look no further than the Sitka Stratus System.
If you’re like me, and don’t want to have to buy 3 different suits to use throughout a season, then the Stratus will suit you well.
I encourage you to give the Stratus jacket and bibs a try. I hope that you are as pleased as I am, and will agree with me when I say that Sitka has in fact made the best whitetail camo system on the market.
